Let me tell you about my home. I am one lucky Prairie Dog! I live in the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. Our town is only a small part of this 60,000 acre beauty spot. Our neighbors are Texas Longhorn cattle. Bison, elk, deer, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, turkey, bunch grasses, postoak and blackjacks.Every morning when I arise from my burrow I see the mountains and grassy plains. I live in a colony with many, many other prairie dogs friends and family. I like the morning hours to be out and scamper about. Tourists come all the time. Not just to see us but I’ve heard it said that Prairie Dogs are the favorites especially among kids. But don’t tell the buffalo they think they are the favorites. Anyway, here’s a rare picture of me stretching before I scamper that one of the tourist took.
